What is the problem?
As a UX Designer that is the real question. 95% of all problems are a mistake in the design. A UX Designer is a problem solver. We get immersed in the user experience and see it from their perspective.
The problem for one designed was the machine his company built was too scary for children to use without complicating already upset children with anesthesia. The whole MRI experience was terrifying! As much as 80% of children needed to be sedated.
A creative UX Designer fixed this problem without expensive redesigns and years of design and development. He turned the whole experience into an adventure. He designed a graphic novel telling the children they are going to go on a space adventure. They redecorated the MRI to look like a spaceship and settled the fears of the children. They now have several adventures for each patient to choose from.

UX Designer
When I say simplicity. What I mean is intuitive. The thing works the way I would expect it to work. This doesn’t just happen. It has to be designed into the product. The science of UX design is based on the focus on the user and design of the interface to eliminate confusion and the possibility or mistakes. This makes adoption of the thing much easier. We still have a lot of work to do.
Who are UX Designers?
User experience (UX) design is rooted in scientific principles, including cognitive psychology, which helps designers understand how users think, behave, and interact with products. Cognitive science helps UX designers focus on users’ needs and behaviors, rather than just aesthetics.
This allows designers to create products that are not only functional, but also attuned to the human mind.
How do they design out mistakes?
Mistakes can be reduced by designing guardrails to make it impossible for the mistake to happen. Constraints are built into the design. Make actions clear and give clear feedback of action’s consequences, like we see with dialog boxes, auto saves, and “Are you sure” warnings. Make actions easy to undo. Use conventional design patterns. By designing constraints, visibility, conventions, and prototyping with feedback from actual users most mistakes or bad designs can be eliminated.
